May 22, 2015 @ 11:41am. If you are having trouble with no filters you can actually take the mask on and off and make 1 filter last for like 30 minutes. Suffocating can last for 30-45 seconds, so every 20-30 seconds throw the mask on for 4 seconds and take it off for another 20-30 seconds. Repeat until death.

It is survival horror... At least they don't make you search for food to survive, but I'd imagine 20 year old gas mask filters wouldn't last long. Plus, game time is always much faster than real time, so that 5 minutes might be several hours in game time. They're not that hard to find, especially in levels with human enemies.
